The first ever “Shorty Awards” ceremony was recently held in New York City. The Shorty Awards honor the best Twitterers in various categories such as advertising, education, entertainment, music, and so on. Votes were submitted to @shortyawards via Twitter. Those receiving the most votes advanced to a final round of voting. Each winner received a $1,000 grant to travel to NYC and attend the ceremony, which was hosted by CNN’s Rick Sanchez. In keeping with the theme of the event, the winners were required to keep their acceptace speechs to 140 characters or less.
